A group of architecture students at the University of Texas at Austin have come up with a modular house design that’s both contemporary and completely off-the-grid. The modular home they created was for the Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon competition. Amazingly, their house runs solely on rainwater and solar energy. The student’s project, called NexusHaus, ended up winning fourth place, but it’s a competition standout.
The competition challenged students to focus on renewable energy. The UT Austin students partnered with a German company called Technische Universität München to bring the 850-square-foot modular home to fruition.
